What Feels Like Freedom?

Do you feel freedom in your life? Do you feel like you are the one in the driver's seat of your own life?  I wasn't feeling that way this summer, so I took a good hard look at what I was doing and how that aligned with my values.

I realized that what I craved more than anything is freedom. That word is heavy, so I dug in deep to figure out what it really meant to me. This exercise was meant to provide some clarity, and it is often one that I do with my clients.

After lots of sketching, tea, and long meditations, I figured out that freedom for me feels like this:

  • The ability to be responsible for my own time
  • Being creative on a daily basis
  • Having time to take care of my body, mind, and spirit
  • Not having too many days that are alike
  • Being able to spend time with my family when I want to
  • Having the financial freedom to do anything I want to do
  • Being in control of what I spend my energy on

When I read this list and think about my life, it makes me feel a strong hearty HELL YES to feeling free. I find it interesting how often I already experience freedom, and yet I'm still thrashing around pretty regularly. Perhaps to thrash is to be human?

After looking hard at this list, I realized that I have control over every single one of these things, all the time. In other words, I am the one who decides if I am free or not.

Warning: Exploding head.

Sometimes it's too easy to let your mind get the better of you. When you stop, relax, and look at what you really want in life, you may find that you already have it, or you are very close to feeling the way you really want to feel.

What do you really crave? What does it mean to you to crave those things? Maybe you're already there....
